UPSC Age Limit & Relaxation

The age limit is one of the most important UPSC eligibility conditions. Age is calculated as on 1st August of the year of examination.

General Category

Minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years. No relaxation is available for the general category.

OBC

Upper age relaxation of 3 years — effectively up to 35 years.

SC / ST

Upper age relaxation of 5 years — effectively up to 37 years.

PwBD

Persons with benchmark disabilities get up to 10 years of relaxation, cumulative with category relaxation.

Ex-Servicemen

Defence service personnel and ex-servicemen get 3–5 years of relaxation depending on the sub-category.
